Kwale, 18th October 2024 – The Affordable Housing and Urbanization Week, themed “Boma Yangu; Housing the Nation, Empowering the Future,” took place in Kwale County from 14th -18th October 2024. The one-week event focused on Kenya’s efforts to provide affordable and resilient housing highlighting the critical intersections of urbanization, sustainable development, and housing as catalysts for community empowerment and economic growth. The Opening ceremony was presided over by H.E. Musalia Mudavadi, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs.
Mission’s Participation
The Permanent Mission’s participation at the Affordable Housing and Urbanization Week was pivotal in advocating for Kenya’s housing priorities on an international stage while facilitating access to vital resources and partnerships. During the panel discussions, the Permanent Representative Amb. Grace Okara shared best practices from UN-Habitat, emphasized the importance of aligning local strategies with global standards, and fostered collaboration among diverse stakeholders.
This engagement not only bolstered the implementation of affordable housing initiatives but also reinforced accountability and garnered support for sustainable urban development in Kenya. Furthermore, it aligned with the UN-Habitat Assembly resolution on Adequate Housing For all, which was sponsored by Kenya, positioning the country as a leader in innovative housing solutions and showcasing its commitment to global standards. The event demonstrated Kenya’s commitment to sustainable urban development and affordable housing, emphasizing the importance of local engagement and partnerships.
