KENYA, UGANDA, AND UN-HABITAT SIGN TRIPARTITE MOU TO ADVANCE SUSTAINABLE URBAN DEVELOPMENT IN THE GREATER BUSIA METRO

Busia, 6th November 2025 : H.E. Amb. Nakhumicha Wafula, E.G.H., Kenya’s Permanent Representative to UN-Habitat, on behalf of Hon. Alice Wahome, Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development, participated in the signing of a tripartite MoU between Kenya, Uganda, and UN-Habitat. This critical instrument establishes a much-needed funding mechanism to support the Sustainable Urban Development of the Greater Busia Metro (GBM) 2025–2028.

Representing Uganda was Hon. Judith Nabakooba, Minister of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development, and Mr. Oumar Sylla, Director of the Regional Office for Africa, represented UN-Habitat.

The signing of this MoU builds upon the bilateral agreement signed between the two countries in July 2025, which established the framework for cooperation between the sister nations on this important cross-border initiative.
