UN Headquarters, Nairobi — 26 November 2025 : The third session of the UN-Habitat Executive Board for 2025 officially concluded today at the United Nations Complex in Gigiri. Over the course of two days, Member States adopted a series of substantive decisions spanning financial, budgetary, and administrative matters; the implementation of UN-Habitat’s normative and operational activities; and the methods of work and workplan of the Executive Board for 2026.
In her closing remarks, Ms. Anacláudia Rossbach, Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, expressed gratitude to Member States for reaffirming their trust in the strategic direction of the Programme. She underscored the importance of accountability, robust evaluation mechanisms, and the strengthening of non-earmarked funding.
Ms. Rossbach extended special thanks to Germany, under the leadership of H.E. Ambassador Sebastian Groth, for chairing the Board and Bureau with distinction; to Kenya, under H.E. Nakhumicha S. Wafula, E.G.H., for chairing the ad hoc working group on programmatic, budgetary, and administrative matters; and to all delegates for their tireless efforts during informal consultations, which contributed to the success of the session through constructive engagement.
Looking ahead, she affirmed her commitment to continued collaboration with Member States in addressing the challenges of urbanization. She emphasized that UN-Habitat is strongest when anchored on three pillars: political partnership, technical credibility, and collective responsibility for our shared future.
