KENYA SHOWCASES AFFORDABLE HOUSING AGENDA AS A CATALYST FOR FINANCING SUSTAINABLE URBANIZATION AT THE UN HIGH-LEVEL MEETING IN NEW YORK

UN-Headquarters, New York, USA, 20Th July 2026:  On the final day of the High-Level Meeting on the Midterm Review of the New Urban Agenda, held alongside the 2026 High-Level Political Forum (HLPF), Kenya participated in the multi-stakeholder panel on “Unlocking Delivery: Financing Sustainable Urbanization at Scale.” The discussion provided an important platform to showcase Kenya’s approach to financing sustainable urban development, highlighting the progress made under our affordable housing and urban development agenda under the Affordable Act 2024.

H.E. Amb. Susan Nakhumicha Wafula, E.G.H., Kenya’s Permanent Representative to UN-Habitat emphasized the importance of mobilizing greater investment through stronger partnerships, including innovative financing mechanisms and expanded public-private partnerships (PPPs), to accelerate the development of sustainable, inclusive and resilient urban infrastructure. She noted that achieving the New Urban Agenda will require collective action and collaboration.
