KENYA MARKS MAZINGIRA DAY WITH NATIONWIDE TREE-GROWING AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION EFFORTS

Nairobi, 12 October 2026: H.E. Amb. Nakhumicha Wafula, E.G.H., Permanent Representative of Kenya to UN-Habitat, joined the Chief Guest, H.E. President Dr. William Samoei Ruto, in celebrating this year’s Mazingira Day in Endebess Constituency, Trans Nzoia County. During the celebrations, 20,000 trees were planted as part of a collective effort to advance environmental conservation.

The celebrations were held under the theme, “Our Environment, Our Responsibility: Collective Action.” In his address, the President highlighted the importance of the national tree-growing programme in addressing the effects of climate change and safeguarding the country’s natural resources for future generations.

The celebrations reaffirmed the importance of sustained collaboration among government institutions, communities, and partners in protecting forests, restoring ecosystems, and supporting climate-resilient livelihoods as Kenya pursues its target of planting 15 billion trees.

Amb. Nakhumicha also led a team of staff from the Permanent Mission in participating in the celebrations. Alongside the festivities, it was a heartwarming moment for her to witness the nearly completed Endebess Mother and Child Hospital, whose expansion she had championed while leading the team at the Ministry of Health (MOH).

She also expressed excitement over the launch of the first-ever tarmac road on the Endebess–Matumbei Road, celebrating this and many other development projects that continue to improve the lives of residents in the County.
