LAUNCH OF THE CHAKALERI MATERIAL RECOVERY FACILITY

Taita Taveta, 3rd April 2025 – Amb. Grace Okara, Kenya’s Permanent Representative to UN-Habitat, joined H.E. Andrew Mwadime,Governor of Taita Taveta County at the launch of the Chakaleri Material Recovery Facility in Taita Taveta County, a key solid waste management project under the #GoBlue initiative. The initiative aims to unlock the potential of sea-land opportunities in coastal urban centers for sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth with employment impact while conserving and sustainably using the coastal and marine environment, as well as promoting effective and integrated maritime governance.

The Permanent Representative commended the Governor and his administration for addressing waste management while ensuring community inclusivity. She also expressed optimism that the initiative’s benefits will be immense, alongside its critical contribution to a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future.
