HABITAT COUNTRY PROGRAMME DOCUMENT (HCPD)

The Kenya Habitat Country Programme Document(HCPD) provides a platform for moblilizing the public, private sector, non-State actors and development partners to contribute to sustainable urban development in Kenya. The current Kenya HCPD is the third country programme cycle and the first one under the new framework of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2022-2026. This HCPD succeeds the 2018-2021 HCPD, taking lessons from the successes and challenges, while seeking to continue and complete implementation of projects earmarked for the 2018-2021 period and proposing new programmes within the new framework of operation.

The overarching aim of current HCPD 2023-2027 is to have a robust Country Programme that is well resourced to respond to the needs of the national government and the 47 counties of Kenya. The objective of the pogramme is to enhance effective service delivery and sustainable development at both national and county levels. The current HCPD is structured under four(4) focus areas, namely;

  1. Improved land management and sustainably planned human settlements
  2. Improved access to housing, quality urban basic services and infrastructure as well as upgraded slums and informal settlements.
  3. Promotion of innovative mechanisms in urban economy and financing
  4. Climate change,Resillience and Disaster Risk Management.
