PERMANENT MISSION JOINS PARTNERS TO OBSERVE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF ZERO WASTE IN NAIROBI

Nairobi, 31st  March 2026 : Amb. Beatrice Karago, Deputy Permanent Representative, joined Türkiye’s Permanent Representative to UNEP & UN-Habitat to observe the Fourth International Day of Zero Waste.

Kenya reaffirms its unwavering commitment to sustainable urban development and environmental stewardship.
We are advancing waste reduction through the Plastic Bag Ban (2017), waste segregation at source, and the adoption of smart technologies in cities such as Nairobi and Mombasa.

We recognize that challenges persist—particularly in rapidly urbanizing areas and informal settlements. Yet, Kenya is strengthening policies, investing in modern infrastructure, and fostering public–private partnerships alongside community engagement.

Kenya calls for greater international collaboration in knowledge sharing, technology transfer, and financing to build resilient, zero-waste cities for all.

Together, let us turn waste into opportunity. ♻️
