




Nairobi, October 24th 2025: Ms. Nana Mhlongo, Deputy Director General (DDG) of the National Department of Human Settlements, South Africa, led a South African delegation on a visit to the Mukuru Social Housing Project on the sidelines of the Second Session of the Open-ended Intergovernmental Expert Working Group on Adequate Housing for All. She was accompanied by officers from the State Department for Housing and Urban Development, the Kenya Permanent Mission, and UN-Habitat.
The delegation had the opportunity to observe first-hand the progress and implementation of the social housing project and to engage with beneficiaries who shared their experiences and insights.
The Mukuru Social Housing Project, implemented under the National Affordable Housing Programme, comprises 13,428 housing units on a 56-acre parcel of land. The housing typologies include 5,616 bedsitters in 26 blocks, 3,024 one-bedroom units in 14 blocks, and 4,608 two-bedroom units in 48 blocks.
