Nairobi, 25 th March 2025 –The first session of UN-Habitat Executive Board meeting started in Nairobi on March 25th and will run until March 27th, 2025. Hon. Alice Wahome E.G.H, Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing & Urban Development officially opened the Session where she highlighted the importance of innovative & collective solutions to address urbanization challenges.
The Hon. Cabinet Secretary also lauded the progress made in the development of the Strategic Plan 2026–2029 that is set for adoption during the upcoming resumed second session of the UN-Habitat Assembly in May, 2025. In particular, she welcomed the focus areas outlined in the new strategic plan, especially emphasis placed on affordable housing.
In conclusion, the Cabinet Secretary reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to strengthening UN-Habitat’s governance, ensuring its programs are well-resourced to enable it advance policies that promote inclusive, resilient, and well-planned urbanization.
