UN-HABITAT SUPPORTED LEARNING EXCHANGE KICKS OFF IN TAITA TAVETA COUNTY

The Learning and Knowledge Exchange Programme between Berbera Municipality and two coastal municipalities in Kenya—Mwatate and Kilifi—is currently underway.
Today, the delegation from Berbera Municipality visited Mwatate Municipality, where a Solid Waste Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) has been successfully constructed.

During the visit, members of both municipalities engaged in meaningful dialogue on the draft by-laws aimed at enforcing national waste management regulations at the county level. The discussions also emphasized the critical role of all stakeholders in the process—including communities, youth and women’s groups, and the private sector—in ensuring inclusive and sustainable implementation.

Both Berbera and Mwatate municipalities are beneficiaries of EU-funded projects implemented by UN-Habitat’s Regional Office for Africa (ROAF), under the Sub-Regional Office for the East and Horn of Africa.
