WOMEN AT THE HEART OF RESILIENT COMMUNITIES: KEY TO SUSTAINABLE URBAN DEVELOPMENT AND THE REALIZATION OF THE SDGs

Nairobi, 5 December 2025: H.E Amb. Nakhumicha Wafula, E.G.H., Kenya’s Permanent Representative to the UN-Habitat, participated in the Pre-UNEA 7 convening organized by the Africa Centre for Sustainable and Inclusive Development (Africa CSID). In her remarks, the Permanent Representative emphasized that a resilient planet is built on resilient communities; resilient communities rely on sustainable livelihoods; sustainable livelihoods are anchored in peace; and peace cannot be achieved without women. Amb. Nakhumicha reaffirmed that in Kenya, women are not just stakeholders—they are the backbone of stability, the catalysts for sustainable settlements, and the custodians of climate resilience.
