Nairobi, 16th April 2026: The Nairobi Rivers Commission and its Secretariat paid a courtesy call to the Permanent Mission, where they briefed officials on their mandate and ongoing efforts in the reclamation, restoration, and regeneration of the Nairobi, Ngong, and Mathare rivers under the Nairobi Rivers Regeneration Programme.
The meeting was chaired by Amb. Beatrice Karago, Deputy Permanent Representative, with participation from the UN-Habitat Kenya Country Office.
The Commission also announced the upcoming Rivers Festival, scheduled for the fourth Sunday of September to coincide with World Rivers Day. This will be the Commission’s first major outreach event, aimed at fostering community engagement and building a network of “Friends of Nairobi Rivers” to champion sustainability.
