Nairobi, 8 September : The Kenya Permanent Mission to UN‑Habitat, led by H.E. Ambassador Nakhumicha Wafula, E.G.H., Permanent Representative of Kenya, today convened a High‑Level Diplomatic and Development Partners Roundtable Breakfast at Trademark hotel, Gigiri, organized jointly with the Nairobi Rivers Commission.
The Roundtable brought together the Diplomatic Corps, development partners, and government leadership to review progress and strengthen partnerships towards the regeneration of Nairobi’s rivers.
The Nairobi Rivers Regeneration Initiative, a nationally led and Mission‑driven undertaking, is transforming the city’s river ecosystems to build a healthier, more resilient, and sustainable Nairobi. Already, the first phase of the 27‑kilometre catalytic stretch is taking shape, reconnecting the city with its waterways and laying the foundation for inclusive urban renewal.
The participation of Cabinet Secretaries for Lands, Housing & Urban Development, and Environment, alongside the Principal Secretary for Water, underscored the Government’s commitment and the importance of sustained, coordinated partnerships.
Restoring Nairobi’s rivers is not only about protecting the environment , it is about creating healthier communities, building resilient urban spaces, and improving the quality of life for generations to come.
